Arrange Your Briefings

NMUN understands the value of these briefings and encourages schools to take advantage of this opportunity. Individual student delegations are responsible for scheduling briefings with the Permanent Mission NY or Embassies in Washington, DC. If you have questions please refer to NMUN Contact Info.

Please follow the protocol below when arranging a briefing.

• Limit briefing to one hour when scheduling and be respectful of this during the meeting.

• Send out an Introductory Letter (download example below)

• Follow up with a Confirmation Letter (download example below)

• Follow-up the Briefing with a thank you note.

For NMUN-NY only, the second morning of the conference is reserved for briefings previously arranged by schools. In some cases the Permanent Mission does not have enough room to accommodate the entire delegation. NMUN-NY offers a limited number of hotel meeting rooms for briefings. Please contact the Conference’s Chief of Staff at cos@nmun.org to request a room (first-come, first-served).

If your delegation schedules the briefing at the hotel, offer to meet the diplomat in a specific place such as the Starbucks on the 8th floor at the Marriott or under the clock in the 1st floor lobby of the Sheraton. Provide a sign with his/her name on it. Escort him/her to the meeting room, do not ask the diplomat to find his/her own way. After the briefing, escort the diplomat out.
