Airport Ground Transportation

Costs Vary

For international flights, Osaka Kansai International (KIX) airport is the most convenient direct route to get to Kobe. Some major carriers also route passengers through Tokyo Narita (NRT) or Tokyo Haneda (HND) airports at little or no extra cost and may offer a choice of Osaka Kansai International (KIX), Osaka Itami (ITM), or Kobe (UKB) airports as final destinations. There are buses from the Osaka airports to Kobe Sannomiya Station (about a 70 minute drive) where there is a complimentary Portopia Hotel shuttle bus. Also, there is a 31 minute high-speed ferry from Kansai International Airport, the Kobe-Kansai Airport Bay Shuttle, to Kobe Airport (then 8 minutes on the Port Liner Monorail to the conference hotels). See the Ground Transportation section of the Costs page for more details.

If delegations want to make a stopover in Tokyo, on their own, make sure to book the Tokyo-Osaka portions with the rest of your flight itinerary since that route is very busy. Tokyo-Kobe flight segments are also possible. If your delegation plans to sightsee in Tokyo, then the Shinkansen (bullet train) is an alternative to flying. However, taking the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kobe is expensive and time consuming if delegates are not planning to stay in Tokyo. Compare prices to the LCC (Low Cost Carriers) Peach (Narita airport in Tokyo to Osaka) or Skymark (Haneda airport in Tokyo to Kobe) for fast and cheap alternatives.

Other Costs to Consider

  • Travel to and from Kobe, Japan
  • Insurance (Health, Travel, Trip Cancellation, Emergency Evacuation, etc.)
  • Passport (make sure the expiration date is at least six months after the conference dates)
  • Visa (if needed)
  • Sightseeing and Souvenirs
