Airport Ground Transportation

Costs Vary

International flights: Osaka Kansai International (KIX) airport is the most convenient direct route to Kobe. Passengers routed through Tokyo Narita (NRT) or Tokyo Haneda (HND) airports may have a choice of Osaka Kansai International (KIX), Osaka Itami (ITM), or Kobe (UKB) airports as final destinations.
From these airports to the Portopia Hotel:

  • ITM / KIX: take a bus to Kobe Sannomiya Station (about 70 minutes) where there is a complimentary Portopia Hotel shuttle bus.
  • KIX: an alternate to the bus listed above is the Kobe-Kansai Airport Bay Shuttle, a high-speed ferry to Kobe Airport (about 31 minutes), then take the Port Liner Monorail (about 8 minutes).
  • UKB: take the Port Liner Monorail (about 8 minutes).

If planning a stopover in Tokyo (on your own), book the Tokyo-Osaka or Tokyo-Kobe flights with the rest of your itinerary as those are busy routes. From Tokyo to Kobe, the Shinkansen (bullet train) is an alternative to flying; however, it is expensive and time consuming. Compare train prices with the LCC (Low Cost Carriers) Peach (Narita airport in Tokyo to Osaka) or Skymark (Haneda airport in Tokyo to Kobe) for fast and less expensive alternatives.

Other Costs to Consider

  • Insurance (Health, Travel, Conference / Trip Cancellation, Emergency Evacuation, etc.)
  • Passport (make sure the expiration date is at least six months after the conference dates)
  • Visa (if needed)
  • Sightseeing and Souvenirs
