NMUN is able to provide registered schools outside the U.S. with an official letter from NMUN confirming your invitation to participate. Unregistered schools or applicants who have not paid the registration fee will not receive assistance. All costs for a visa are the responsibility of the student.
TO RECEIVE A LETTER:
1. Contact NMUN, secgen@nmun.org, well in advance of your visa interview and make your request for a letter. Please allow at least three business days for a response.
2. Provide the names of all of the students and faculty participating and, if available, dates of birth and passport numbers.
Because of the volume of requests, a letter will be issued to the school listing all applicants. We cannot send individual letters. Requests should only come from the faculty advisor or head delegate and must include all students. Letters will be issued as a .pdf file. The advice to have a single letter from NMUN showing all members of the group as a .pdf file was given directly by the U.S. Department of State. Thank you.
Other advice:
* START EARLY: Contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate upon receiving your assignment to inquire how early participants should apply for visas. It may vary by location. (In general, you should apply more than 60 days in advance of your travel date.)
* BRING THE LETTER TO YOUR INTERVIEW: Bring the invitation letter provided by NMUN, addressed to the school, to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate when requesting a visa to travel to the United States. The letter must be brought with you for your file; embassies do not accept separate, unsolicited letters and match them to files.
* TRAVEL WITH THE LETTER: A copy of the official NMUN letter provided should also be carried by each participant when traveling to the United States and, if requested, presented to Homeland Security Officials. Having a visa does not guarantee entry to the United States; further questions as to the purpose of the visit may be asked upon arrival. Also, bring your travel itinerary showing your return plane ticket and information on any other places you will visit in the U.S. Each year we welcome the participation of more than 1,500 participants from outside the United States and are happy to provide the assistance above.
